Capturing the essence of passion and teamwork through a dual-media publication that converts the rhythm of a soccer match into a structured magazine and website.
Created for the "Typography, Image, and Layout" course at HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd, this project documents the women's soccer team of TSV Nellmersbach. Through a combination of original photography, layout design, and interviews, the work explores the synergy between print and screen, centering on the themes of unity and athletic dedication.
The Challenge
The core objective was to show the raw energy of sports photography in an editorial and digital narrative. This required balancing three distinct media layers: a high-fidelity print magazine, an original photography series, and a responsive web prototype. The design needed to avoid cliches while maintaining a connection to the local club's identity.
The Process
The visual strategy utilizes a 4-column grid in an A4 landscape format. Typography plays a vital role, pairing the bold Creato Display for high-impact headlines with the technical, monospace Roboto Mono to evoke the aesthetic of digital scoreboards. The color palette remains predominantly monochrome, enhanced by a vibrant "Sky Blue" and "Midnight Black".
A central concept is the navigation: chapters are structured as soccer scores (0:1 to 0:6), while page numbers represent match minutes, allowing the reader to experience the narrative of the magazine as a "match" while flipping through the pages. To add a tactile, personal dimension, handmade elements like laminated player cards and "dirt" splatters were integrated, symbolizing the physical reality of the sport.
The Solution
The result is a holistic brand ecosystem for TSV Nellmersbach. The Print Magazine features a continuous cover image symbolizing teamwork, supported by internal spreads that contrast fast action shots with intimate player portraits. The Web Prototype mirrors this experience digitally, replacing page-minute navigation with a "ball-on-a-timeline" progress bar. Horizontal navigation on desktop and a vertical, sticky mobile layout ensure a seamless transition between media while preserving the editorial soul of the project.
